How Thanksgiving Point Simplified Guest Check-In with Digital Waivers from WaiverSign

About Thanksgiving Point

Thanksgiving Point is a nonprofit organization in Lehi, Utah, featuring seven different museums and attractions designed to inspire curiosity and build confidence in children through hands-on STEM-based activities and programs. From the five-story Jurassic Jungle indoor playground to the high ropes Canopy Tours and the 55-acre Ashton Gardens, Thanksgiving Point provides families with opportunities to learn, play, and connect through discovery.

The Challenge

When Dave Coltrin, Vice President of Guest Strategy & Experience, joined Thanksgiving Point, WaiverSign was already being used at select attractions. As the organization prepared to open the new Jurassic Jungle, Dave and his team saw an opportunity to expand WaiverSign’s use across more venues and reduce reliance on paper-based waivers.

“We’ve been using WaiverSign for quite some time. That predates my time with Thanksgiving Point,” Dave explains. “When I came on board, we decided that we wanted to expand our waiver capability across more areas. We really wanted a better, more modern way of managing our waivers rather than being primarily paper-based.”

Some of Thanksgiving Point’s experiences, like the Canopy Tours, required waivers for safety and understanding of potential risks. The team needed a consistent and efficient system that supported those experiences while maintaining a smooth guest flow.

The Solution

As Thanksgiving Point prepared to launch Jurassic Jungle, the team worked with WaiverSign to expand and improve their waiver process.

Guests now have two easy ways to complete a waiver, either by scanning a QR code with their smartphone or by using a mounted tablet near the point of sale. “It’s very streamlined,” Dave says. “They’re able to decide whether they want to complete a waiver just for themselves, for minor children under their care, or for both in one session.”

This flexibility has been especially helpful for caregivers arriving with large groups. “To be able to complete that experience for a caregiver and four or five or eight kids in one session was really valuable,” Dave notes.

Initially, Thanksgiving Point used separate waivers for different attractions like Jurassic Jungle and Canopy Tours. Over time, the team consolidated to a single waiver across all venues. “That way, guests who were participating in multiple experiences didn’t need to complete multiple waivers,” Dave says. “It’s been a nice change for us.”

The Results

Streamlined Guest Experience
Digital waivers have made the guest experience smoother and faster, particularly during large events. Dave recalls one summer event in Ashton Gardens featuring bouncy houses, climbing walls, and a 250-foot inflatable obstacle course.

“We communicated in advance that guests would need to sign a waiver,” he says. “Some guests noticed the email while others did not.  But those guests really appreciated being able to scan the QR code in line, fill out the waiver on their phone, and not have it add to their wait time to experience the event.”

Efficiency and Easy Access
Digitizing the process has eliminated the inefficiencies of paper handling and made it easier to retrieve records when needed. “It’s easy for me as a vice president,” Dave explains. “I don’t use the software every day, but if a guest or team member has a question, I can pull up a waiver from anytime in recent months or the past year in just a handful of seconds.”

Dave also appreciates how cleanly the system organizes adult and minor information. “I really like the simple organization,” he says. “It’s nice and efficient for us.”

Team Adoption and Ease of Use
WaiverSign has been well received across departments, with staff quickly adapting to the system. “The dashboard has just been really user friendly for us,” Dave says. “Our team can easily access the same online account to manage our waiver business and confirm that guests have filled out their waivers appropriately.”

Excellent Support

When Thanksgiving Point decided to consolidate their two waiver accounts into one, Dave reached out to WaiverSign’s support team for guidance.

“The experience has been really great,” he says. “Response times have been terrific, always within 24 hours and many times more quickly than that. The team coached me through the process and suggested additional options for how it could work. I really appreciated their willingness to help us through that.”

Why They Recommend WaiverSign

Dave describes WaiverSign as a reliable, modern, and guest-friendly solution.

“I would highly recommend WaiverSign to folks that are looking for a streamlined, modern, fast, efficient partner,” he says. “It gives guests easy ways to complete waivers digitally, allows your team to validate them, and provides a user-friendly database to access waivers whenever you need them.”
